it's been less than 3 weeks since the last devlog, but i figured it would make sense if these devlogs were done once per month, and if they're being done once per month, then doing them at the start of the month sounds right. we've also separately been on holiday, meaning we couldn't get together to work on the game as much as normal. that means this devlog will be a small one. sorry!
the work of upscaling all our graphics is very nearly done! every single graphic now has an upscaled version. the reason it's very nearly done instead of fully done is that the unlicensed therapist (one of your party members)'s upscale is a little wonky, so it's gonna be redone. other than that we're finally done!!!! woo woo wooo! we can move onto other things now

something we realised recently is that too many sprites have black outlines. this made for a slightly dull aesthetic, so we've been going back on some previous sprites and changing many of them along with upscaling them. a few look best with black outlines (like the umbrella suitman shown in devlog 1) but many of them now look slightly better. that's neat

the aforementioned new starting area (old brainland) and later temple area (the temple) aren't finished, work on them will probably continue working on them over the next month. some areas look a little basic (e.g. wet town with its completely static water), so we might change them to hopefully look a little more interesting. rough plans have also been made for how to make the intro cutscene cooler when we port it. maybe that'll be soon. god only knows
